Healing and Being Healthy

There is always something happening in our lives, and the last couple of weeks have been no exception.  I was going to ignore one thing that happened, or at least save it for later with a different subject, but something happened yesterday that caused me to change my mind.

First, let me give you a little background:

In our home, we have 4 dogs, two males and two females.  The males do not get along at all, so we keep them separated, but occasionally one will spot the other and chaos and a fight ensues.  This occurred a couple weeks ago, and in the process of breaking it up, I wound up having to get stitches.

Just a couple of days after this happened, I got a call from work, needing me to come in a couple days earlier than normal because the boss had just gone into the hospital and was going to need surgery.  She would be out for a week.

I pulled my stitches out a couple of days ago.  My wounds are clean, and healing beautifully.  I am already back to nearly 100% of my physical norm.  My boss on the other hand came back to work, and less than 2 days later she was back in the hospital, and is not anticipated to be back for at least another week.

The difference between the two situations isn’t dog bite vs laser surgery, it’s not recuperation time.  The difference between the two of us is health.  Before the stitches I was physically active, meditated often and eat (mostly) healthy with lots of fresh food and juicing.  My boss on the other hand is a severely non-compliant diabetic who gets very little (to my knowledge, none) exercise outside work and has a diet consisting of primarily Monster energy drinks and junk food.  She also creates an extremely  stressful environment for herself and others.

Healing from any injury is so much more than having an easy surgery and “recuperating” well, or pulling out stitches from a clean wound.  Healing, and being healthy is a total Mind, Body, Spirit experience.  If I wasn’t as healthy as I am, I may not have been able to make it to work when I was needed, or my leg might still need to be bandaged.  If my boss was healthier, she may never have had to go into the hospital at all, much less twice.

If we want a healthier world, it must start with us individually.  We must take care of ourselves, we must eat healthy foods, stay physically active and keep as low stress as possible.  It is only in this way that we can get healthy, and stay that way.
