Parenthood Never Ends

Today our youngest turns 18.  He is an amazing kid, and becoming an even more amazing young man.  I am happy to say I’m very proud of him.

Birthdays are always a day of reflection for me.  Today, like with all the kids, I find myself looking back over my successes as a parent, and my failures (and there were many!).  But I also look to the future.  Just because your child legally becomes an adult does not mean that your job is done.

Parenthood is an “always on” job. When you accept the role of being a parent, you accept the responsibility that goes with it.  Responsibility that means everything from changing diapers to spending money on things you know your child will never use.  It includes skyrocketing food bills and going without to make sure your kids have what they need first.  It also means once they are an adult you are still on call for help and advice, support and understanding.

Today our youngest turns 18.  Today, I’m grateful that it is only the beginning.
