Creating A New Normal

Change is disruptive. Always. Once we have a regular routine, we become accustomed to the routine, and making any changes becomes uncomfortable, frustrating and, at times, downright aggravating. For the last two years, since shortly after beginning this blog, this is the situation I have been in. Near constant changes in my routine, usually due to a change of some type in whatever work situation I happened to be in at the time have been my norm for nearly the entire time. Most of the last two years have been spent in physical, mental and often, emotional exhaustion, simply due to the constantly shifting, disruptive sleep patterns. It has been, perhaps, the biggest issue that I have had to deal with in trying to keep writing this page.

I am happy to say that starting tomorrow, there will be a new normal, and a stable one. My current job prefers giving their employees a fixed schedule, which I have had for the last couple of months, however, the old schedule was not entirely conducive to other areas of my life, namely being able to cover most of the weddings at the chapel, and writing this blog. Starting tomorrow, that all changes. My new schedule will both allow me to work much more closely with the chapel, but perhaps more importantly, is such that my sleep schedule will vary little and will allow more time for writing here. Plus, with the added benefit of writing from work, and having a mostly night schedule when it’s quieter and easier to write, I anticipate becoming much more regular about posting again.

It’s not that I did anything special for this new norm. I worked hard, proved myself to my co-workers and my boss, and waited for the appropriate time for the request. I set my intent, and allowed what would happen to happen. Could I have continued on with the other schedule? Yes, as a Warrior, I could have. But as a Warrior, this was also a good opportunity to face change, and adapt to it with foresight and willpower to guide the desired changes to fulfillment. In this way, I was (with the Spirit’s help) to create the best situation for myself, and for others of my co-workers.

Change is never easy. Sometimes it’s drastic, sometimes subtle. But by keeping awareness involved, and remaining detached from emotion we can often create the final situation that we desire.

Blessed Be.
