Declining Passions

Over the last month or so, as things have time and events have twisted and turned, and settled and unsettled, I’ve seen a particular subject come up on several occasions, and I think now is the time to bring it up for discussion.  At first, it may seem as though the two specific circumstances may be completely dissimilar, however the real subject isn’t the location or event, but rather the involvement.

For anyone who knows us personally, they know that in our house, music is life.  Our living room is a studio, and we all play multiple instruments.  We all have been to, and been in, more shows than I can count.  And part of the eventual plan here, is that some of our music will ultimately become a part of our webpage(s).

Being Spiritual is also something we strive for.  Meditation and prayer is something we try to do regularly, as well as recognizing where we may be falling short, and trying to overcome our unhealthy learnings from our past.  We also, on occasion, may go to a church for a service.  For several years, I did attend the Unity Church in my area, and was very happy and enjoyed the people there, but life occurred, and attending regularly was no longer an option for me.

The subject that has be coming up for some time now, is the decline of attendance and involvement in the community.  We have become too insular, we no longer reach out to those persons we share passions with.  Many years ago, I used to regularly go to a very popular bar in Phoenix (where I lived at the time).  Every show was packed.  When I attended church, church was full too.  A few months ago, my husband’s band played at the same bar, and it was less than half full!  I just saw a friend of mine from church the other, and was told that the church is closed now, due to lack of involvement and attendance.

I can’t heal this world alone, and neither can you.  But if we start reaching out to each other, if we start becoming involved again, we can as a community heal this world.
