…Or what movies should I watch to understand and get my head around current events?
Good evening, Warriors For so many of us, the future is here, now. We are no longer reading it in books, or watching it in movies. Now, we just have to turn on our televisions or drive through our towns.
Just as all this started, before I lost my job, I used to watch a lot of movies on my phone since we had zero reservations and hours of downtime. And for many years, some of my favorite movies are Dystopian flicks. You know, the ones where the government has all the power and does not allow dissent. Then an (anti)hero rises up, there’s revolution and a new start for society.
So I’m watching this movie at work one day, and suddenly my co-worker asks me, “What movie are you watching? It sounds exactly like what’s been going on in the news!” I tell him, and this starts a big discussion on what some of my favorite movies are and what I would recommend so that he could get a crash course on the events that he was watching playing out in real life.
Since then, I’ve discussed this list of movies with several people, I thought I would go ahead and share it here as well. Some of these movies are fiction and some of them are not. Some of them are very popular, many are not. Keep in mind this is by no means a complete list of all dystopian movies, just the ones that I found personally that relate most directly to this massive social situation.
So without further ado, I present to you, my Warriors, my list of movies for understanding the “2020 Pandemic” and resulting social upheaval:
Fiction:
ATLAS SHRUGGED – An incredible three part series based on the Ayn Rand book of the same name. I was watching Part 3 when my co-worker asked me what I was watching.
EQUILIBRIUM – starring Christian Bale. Dystopian fans will recognize elements of “Fahrenheit 451” in this underrated flick
IDIOCRACY – Billed as a comedy, it is an understatement to say I didn’t like this movie when it first came out. While it had comedic moments (some of them absolutely hysterical), it wasn’t funny to me, or a comedy. I also held the belief (and still do) that the ignorance and societal idiocy portrayed in the movie led to the very stupidity that the movie was mocking. All that aside, I still think it is a great dystopian flick for showing how society degraded to the point where something like this could happen.
BRAVE NEW WORLD – Sex, Drugs, Indoctrination and The Noble Savage.
THE HUNGER GAMES – The powers that be tell you exactly how they are distracting and manipulating you, and they made millions doing it.
V FOR VENDETTA – A pandemic, riots, government payoffs and an election year. If you want the super short, highly expedited class, watch this first.
Documentary
I’ve truncated this down to the three most important. One of them actually covers a little bit of some of the others on the original list, and there is some repetition and overlapping. That being said, the information is sound, and that does include the Spiritual history covered as well.
ZEITGEIST – Now has two sequels. I can’t speak to them as I haven’t seen them yet. I’m getting on that as soon as I have a little while to do so.
ESOTERIC AGENDA – Covers much of what Zeitgeist covers, but also includes a distinct bit on “Codex Alimentarus” as well, which is another movie I haven’t been able to find recently, but was on the original list.
EPOCH – Produced and Narrated by Woody Harrelson. It’s been awhile since I’ve watched this one, but it was memorable enough the first two times to include on the list.
If I’ve missed any movies, please leave me a comment or send me an email. Just keep in mind that the only stipulation I have is that the movie must relate to current events only.
In the meantime, Warriors, stay safe. Walk your Path in Honor and Truth. We are not alone.
Blessed Be.
