Welcome to the new year, a new decade and my first post of 2020. Last year , for many of us, things were truly difficult. I am grateful to say that so far, this year is starting on a much higher note. I am happy to say that for the first time in a long time, I am finding a new balance in life, and in how things are shaping up for this year.
Something I noticed toward the end of 2019, while I was sick in bed, I realized that it was the first time that I wasn’t intensely focused on trying to get something done or thinking about what needed to be done. I had been stressing on things for so long that I didn’t know how to not stress, and had been creating it for myself when there was no need to. Many of us go through this far more often than we would like to admit. The Spirit forced the issue, and I wound up in bed for the better part of four days.
Over the last couple of weeks, with the holiday schedule, I was able to have a few extra hours where I wasn’t having to do anything, but the last week I had a three day weekend. Most of the time when that happens, I get so wrapped up in the ideas of what I think I need to do and the projects that need to be worked on that I stress myself out, and nothing gets done. This time, I consciously let myself do nothing. I let go and was able to relax and allow myself to mentally heal in ways I had forgotten how to do.
By the time my weekend was done, not only had I been able to relax and enjoy doing nothing, I also got more done than just the minimum basics. I didn’t stress myself over anything, and told myself that I was only going to work on things while I felt up to it. I set no goals, no timeframe. I just let things happen. By the time I finished last night, I not only finished the absolutely mandatory things I had to do, I made significant progress on one of the projects that we had been discussing getting done, and have another one started. I’m also well on the way to getting back to my weekly juicing which we had given up due to holiday schedule changes and other factors.
Mentally and emotionally I am in a much better place than I have been in a long time. I am less stressed, more coherent and more focused. I have been able to get back to my physical activity and increase what I was doing in a shorter period of time than normal.
It is important that we take time in our lives to relax. If we don’t, the Spirit may force the issue. Sometimes, it’s going to mean that we do nothing for an hour, or a day, or a week (if we’re lucky). Maybe we watch a movie (preferably a spiritual one and a just for fun one). Maybe we go for a hike, or play an instrument. Or maybe, we just sit and do…. absolutely nothing but enjoying the silence. Whatever your nothing is, make sure you set no expectations, have no plans. Just do nothing. And enjoy every minute of it.
Blessed Be.
