So I’m talking with my step-son the other night about movies, and what some of my favorites are. Movies like: Redbelt, V for Vendetta, Ironclad, City of Ember, Up, Wall-E, Avatar, Star Wars to name a few. Now that might seem like an unusual mix of movies, but there is a theme to what I enjoy watching the most.
Close your eyes, and search inside yourself. Find that part of you that holds hope, freedom, beauty, truth, Love. And if these movies don’t talk about these subjects directly, they talk about standing up for them. Those are my favorite movies.
It’s no different with books, or documents. Documents like Magna Carte, The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution and the Bill of Rights, The Gettysburg Address. Old myths and legends, Cuchulain (Irish legend), King Arthur, all of these subjects draw from one source.
My favorite things are those things that can only be referenced with words, and the truth can only be felt inside. Most people have forgotten the ability to find that place within themselves, or they only capture it for a few moments while watching a movie or reading a book. But if we all learn to find that place again, and we all bring these aspects, these “best of” legends into our hearts, we can stop wishing for those worlds and create one for ourselves.
