If you have been reading my page for any length of time, you know that the last couple of years have been brutal. Both my husband and I are very much the outdoorsy type. We love to get out hiking, camping, boating, or doing virtually anything out in nature, and this year we are making up for lost time.
The other day, we went out on a hike. It’s a hike we’ve been on before, and we know the area fairly well, but there are still some areas we haven’t been too yet. In the middle of this hike, in that moment where we had the option of going the way we planned (a no-way back route which we have done before), or going a different way which only my husband my hiked before. We chose the second option.
When we chose to walk the alternate route, we found new trails that we didn’t know existed. We found a way back to an beautiful area that we had seen before and had wanted to find a way into, but didn’t know how to at the time. The area is almost hidden, but when we made it back into that spot, we found it to be green and lush, a rarity in the desert. It was a perfect adventure that we weren’t expecting to find when we set out that day.
When we choose to do something different, walk a new path, literally or figuratively, we are choosing the path of adventure. We are choosing the new, the exciting, we are choosing adventure over mundane. Even something as simple as taking a new path in an old hiking area opens us up to new experiences, new places to learn, or to just be.
