How Our Unconscious Actions Affect Others

We should all be aware that our conscious actions can, do and will have an effect on others.  For example, if I push someone, they may fall; if I say something to them, or about them, it may affect how they feel about themselves.  But what about those things that we may not be conscious of – our subconscious emotions, those things we may not even be aware of in ourselves?

Let’s take this example:  let’s say we go out to an event, say lunch and a movie.  You say or do something that I become angry over, but the time is not appropriate for me to say anything.  So I wait, and life goes on.  I forget about it because I have a lot of things to do.  A few months later, you invite me over to dinner, and I knock over your favorite dish in a spill that should have been avoidable.  Now you are upset, and I suddenly feel a release of tension and stress, a sense of gloating or something similar.  These are the type of actions I’m talking about.

We very often hold onto emotions, or ideas of how things should be without realizing it, and we can cause great amounts of damage to those around us through them.  Sometimes, over the course of time, they can cause so much damage to relationships that the relationship eventually ends.  Friends stop communicating, couples divorce, families break apart.

We can stop these actions by becoming aware of the emotions and thoughts behind them.  When you find yourself acting on, or reacting to something, ask yourself “why?”.  As you become aware of why you are doing things, you can change that behavior or thought pattern.  You can change your life, and possibly even someone else’s.
